MAJOR OBJECTIVES
- To establish botanical gardens, particularly medicinal and endangered plant species for biodiversity conservation.
- To develop beekeeping technology to improve and diversify the local economy and the utilization of local resources to upgrade the skills of landless labourers and economically weaker sections of the society.
- To organise collaborative Research and Development programmes with institutions both in India and abroad.
- To inculcate establishment of Apitherapy clinics/alternative medical centres throughout the country and abroad.
- To enhance the consumption of honey and other bee products such as bee pollen, royal jelly, propolis produced by bees for the health of the people in general.
- To create basic level awareness from school to college/University and to include beekeeping/Apiculture as a subject at all levels.
- To establish beekeeping clusters along with Centres of Excellence/Incubation Centres for development of Apiculture/Beekeeping.
- To educate people to increase in income generation through beekeeping and other allied activities.
- To start Certificate, Diploma, Post-Graduate Diploma, income generating programmes, Degree, Post-graduation and research programmes in Beekeeping/Apiculture.
- To establish International /National Apiculture University to cover basic, applied aspects upto Ph.D. level and Beekeeping and Rural Development programmes.
- To take conservation and sustainable utilization of plant and animal genetic resources for food and sustainable agriculture, horticulture productivity for livelihood.
- To develop ayurvedic formulations using honey and other value added bee products, carryout research and develop new ayurvedic medicines and products incorporating honey and other value added products beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom, leverage their medicinal properties.
- To study the therapeutic effects of honey ayurvedic treatments, investigate the efficacy of honey in treating various health conditions, such as wound healing, digestive issues and respiratory problems through clinical trialsand research investigations.
- To conserve and promote honey bee species, stingless bees for income, employment and biodiversity conservation, Establishment of International/National Bee Parks to conserve and promote Asian honey bees, Apis cerana, Apis florea, Apis dorsata, Apis laboriosa and Stingless bees; European bees(Apis mellifera), create awareness on their importance in biodiversity conservation, pollination, extension education, training on all aspects bees and beekeeping.
- To explore the potential of bee products in ayurvedic cosmetics through research and development, produce products viz., cosmetics, such as skincare hair care products using different types of honey, beeswax and propolis.
- To investigate the antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal properties of honey and other value added products, study its medicinal properties and its potential applications in Ayurvedic medicine, including wound healing and infection prevention.
- To develop sustainable beekeeping practices, promotion of region specific, bee species specific sustainable beekeeping practices and provide basic trainingto local farmers and advanced mass queen rearing training beekeepers on modern beekeeping techniques, honey, pollen, propolis harvesting and its processing.
- To create awareness about the importance of bees in pollination and ecosystem services, education about crucial role of bees in pollination of agri-horticulture, forest produce and the impact of pollinator decline on climate change and our food security, health and ecosystem.
- To establish honey bee gene bank, create a gene bankto conserve and preserve Indigenous honey bee species through selection programmes such a high honey and pollen hoarding, disease tolerant bee species and promote bee breeding for improved bee stock.
- To collaborate with local communities for honey production. Partner with local communities to learn traditional and indigenous knowledge sharing to promote honey production and provide economic benefits to rural populations.
- To integrate traditional knowledge with modern bee science. Combine traditional ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific research to develop evidence based ayurvedic productsand treatments using honey and bee products.
- To establish and promotion of honey and other value added bee products centres for its marketing and brand development.
- To promote alternative low-cost methods of beekeeping to help farmers, beekeepers and for people who are interested in Beekeeping.
- To promote and establish the concept of organic bee farming system.
- To establish “ Beekeeping Centres of Excellence”in research and innovation to promote STARTUPS
- To promote and practice bee fencing to drive away elephants to protect the crops and human lives in the western and eastern ghat regions ie wherever elephant problems are there.
- To create awareness on promotion of pure honey for human consumption and wellbeing.
- To promote “Beekeeping Skills and Innovation and Technology” and to involve Government and Non Governmental organisations for implementation of the programmes.
